How long has the Taste been around?
The Taste began in the late 1990’s as a small event at the Huntington Beach Central Library. The Taste has continued to grow every year, moving to ever larger venues. In 2008, the event moved to its current location. Started by a group of civic leaders who wanted to create a friendly beach themed event that would help bring people to Huntington Beach, and at the same time, feature locally-owned restaurants, the Taste of Huntington Beach is now an established and popular brand. The Taste is still run by an all-volunteer committee and a small army of volunteers.
Where does the money go?
The Taste is run by volunteers. The primary purpose of the event is to showcase downtown Huntington Beach and the wonderful restaurants that call our city home. After expenses (tents, supplies, permits, entertainment, trash collection, security, advertising, and more!), the Taste contributes the majority of the proceeds to the non-profit Friends of the Children’s Library, which supports the Children’s wing of the Huntington Beach Central library.
